SCOTT
"BAM BAM" SULLIVAN - INSTRUCTORScott Sullivan is an experienced Thai boxing trainer, competitive kickboxer, and holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Scott has been studying and teaching martial arts for over 26 years. During this time he has become an expert instructor, teaching hundreds of students how to build self-confidence, self-esteem and focus. After study in more traditional martial arts, Scott turned his attention to Thai boxing (Muay Thai) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because of their proven effectiveness. Beginning in 1986, he studied with Thai boxing instructor Ajarn Surachai ("Chai") Sirisute, the founder of the Thai Boxing Association of the U.S.A. After a career in competitive kickboxing and training professional kickboxers, Scott began to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under various big names like Rickson Gracie, Relson Gracie, Royce Gracie, and John and Carlos Machado. Eventually however, he went with his close friend and jiu jitsu extraordinaire Mario Roberto, president of the Mario Roberto Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association and black belt protégé of Anibal Braga, as his primary instructor. Additionally, Scott has cross trained in other submission grappling styles and has trained with notables such as Ken Shamrock and Erik Paulson. As
a competitor, Scott held U.S. Heavyweight titles in both kickboxing and
shootboxing from the Universal Kickboxing Federation and the United
States Shootboxing Association. Known for his favorite move, a hard low
kick to the thigh (which some have said feels like being hit by a baseball bat),
Scott was billed on fight cards in places such as Las Vegas
NV, Moscow Russia, and Tokyo Japan. In fact, Scott's ring experience in international competition has enabled him to become a better teacher. Through this experience he is able to teach his students exactly what it takes to develop endurance, strength, tenacity and
patience. As a trainer, for years Scott has ran a stable of successful kickboxers, sport jiu jitsu competitors, and mixed martial arts fighters in cities such as Evansville IN, Indianapolis IN, and Atlanta, GA. Interestingly, back when the now famous Hook n Shoot organization was in its beginning stages, some of its first events were in-school "dojo fights" conducted in Scott's "Bam Bam Gym" located in Evansville, IN. Moreover, Scott has worked with various police officers and military personnel in order to improve their hand to hand responses in dealing with aggressive assaults. Finally, Scott has conducted numerous seminars in women's rape defense, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and was instrumental in initiating the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at the Francis Fong Academy in Atlanta, GA. On the entertainment side, Scott appeared in the European/ Australian released film "Stickfighter" as the nemesis of his friend and martial arts movie star Kely McClung. Currently, Scott is the host of ESPN radio's "In the Cage" - a weekly radio program on 97.5 FM in Houston which features mixed martial arts celebrities and Scott's commentary on the mixed martial arts scene. (The archived "In the Cage' radio programs are now available online). As for activities and achievements apart from martial arts, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife and four daughters, woodworking, shooting, and occasionally playing the Great Highland Bagpipes. Scott holds a BA in European History from the University of Southern Indiana, an MA in Philosophy from Holy Apostles College in Cromwell CT, and is currently completing his PhD work in philosophy at the Center for Thomistic Studies at University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX., where he also works as an adjunct professor of philosophy. Scott has published articles on ethics in academic journals and is working on publications in philosophy of religion and informal logic. ![]() Bam Bam Martial Arts is a proud member of the Martial Arts Teacher's Association.
